China-led international standard helps ‘zongzi’ go global
During the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) dynasties, the custom of eating zongzi became a nationwide tradition passed down through generations. Today, there is an international standard specifying what a zongzi is. It is briefly defined as “cooked rice wrapped in plant leaves,” but the full standard goes into more detail.
