Jiuquan Taiyuan New Energy Co. visited by foreign journalists

A number of foreign journalists from different countries visited Jiuquan Taiyuan New Energy Company in Jiuquan city in China’s northwestern Gansu province, on Thursday.Visiting this company was a part of the jourrnalsits’ journey to Gansu province, arranged by the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC).

Jiuquan Taiyuan Nenergy Co., LTD. is a private enterprise engaged in the development of green energy, including the development, construction, and operation of the infrastructure and projects of wind power, photovoltaic power, and energy storage.

Taiyuan has developed a 200MW wind power project, with a total investment of 1.2 billion RMB, in Guazhou County, Gansu Province. 50 wind turbines of 4MW have been installed. The power is finally transmitted to Hunan Province through the ±800kV UHVDC.

The project started in May 2021. 50 turbines with whole capacity successfully generated by the end of 2021. The construction progress ranks first in more than twenty projects of the same batch. The annual power generation is 600 GWh, reducing the emissions of 180,000 tons of CO₂, 2,200 tons of NO, and 2,500 tons of smoke and -dust. Therefore, it was a veritable low-carbon or near-zero carbon project.

After twenty years of rapid development, Gansu Province has become a major province of new energy in China. The new energy takes 60% in whole electricity installed capacity in Gansu. Hexi Corrido owns 83% of the province’s new energy installed capacity. The new ay proportion in Jiuquan City is as high as 80%. On the other hand, new energy has the characteristics of intermittence, randomness and volatility. With so high proportion of new energy, the safe and stable operation of the power grid has also encountered unprecedented challenges.Gokhwindphotovoltaic power, Taiyuan invested moredemonstration project of 50 MVarsynchronous condenser, which effectivelysuppressed the transient voltage of windturbines, reduced the probability of highTo improve the stability and safety of the power grid, increase the new energy output, and reduce the abandonment of wind and than 70 million RMB to develop a voltage off-grid of wind turbines, and improved the output of new energy. As a result, the synchronous condenser ensures the safe and stable of UHVDC, and demonstrates its important role at large-scale development of new energy.
