Georgian Vineyard will be planted in the Leuville-sur-Orge estate area
The National Museum of Georgia, the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, and LTD “Shato Zegaani”, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at promoting Georgian winemaking heritage.
As part of this initiative, the Georgian vineyard will be planted in the territory of Leuville-sur-Orge, fostering cultural exchange and elevating the global presence of Georgia’s winemaking traditions. The General Director of the National Museum of Georgia, Mr. David Lortkipanidze, the Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Mr. Levan Ujmajuridze, and the Director of LTD “Shato Zegaani,” Mrs. Liana Zubashvili, signed the Agreement. The Minister of Culture of Georgia, Mrs. Tina Rukhadze; the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. David Songulashvil; the First Deputy Minister of Culture, Mrs. Maka Gurgenidze, and the Deputy Minister, Mr. Giorgi Mirtskhulava, attended the signing ceremony.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture emphasized the significance of the project, noting that the cultivation of Georgian vines on the Leuville-sur-Orge estate area is a symbol of preserving our history and cultural heritage. “Planting Georgian vines on the Leuville-sur-Orge estate is not only a restoration of heritage but also a revival of our history, an 8,000-year-long continuous winemaking tradition, and culture. This project unites Georgian land, wine, and the unique history of immigration, connecting generations with one another. The Memorandum we are signing today demonstrates how the state, private sector, and scientific community can collaboratively implement significant national projects and ensure the dignified continuation of history. It is symbolic that one of the oldest Georgian grapevine varieties will be planted right here on the Leuville-sur-Orge estate,” stated Mr. David Songulashvili.The Memorandum is based on a notarial deed signed on September 23, 2016, outlining the maintenance and development of the Leuville-sur-Orgeestate park. The park will prominently feature native Georgian tree and fruit varieties, along with a dedicated section showcasing traditional Georgian vineyards. In collaboration with the National Museum of Georgia and the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, LTD. “Shato Zegaani” will voluntarily (free of charge ) provide financial support and take full responsibility for carrying out all necessary activities to establish a vineyard on the Leuville-sur-Orge estate. The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture will provide methodological assistance and consultation to LLC “Shato Zegaan” and the National Museum within its area of expertise.
