Conserving the Beauty of West Lake
Since ancient times, poets have been inspired by Hangzhou’s West Lake and its picturesque scenery. In 2002, during a tour of Hangzhou, Xi Jinping visited the lake and called for a comprehensive conservation effort to be launched there. With his support, in 2005 the Hangzhou West Lake Museum opened, becoming an important cultural center that offers visitors an insight into the lake’s rich history. Since becoming China’s president, Xi Jinping has taken every opportunity to tell the world about West Lake, its great beauty, and the legends associated with it.
