Embassy of Bulgaria in Tbilisi organizes celebration of the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius
The Embassy of Bulgaria in Tbilisi organized a ceremonial event on the occasion of the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education, and culture, which is celebrated annually on May 24. The event was attended by representatives of the Bulgarian diaspora, friends of Bulgaria, and guests of the Embassy.
The event also served as an opportunity for a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to Georgia, Veselin Valkanov, who is completing his diplomatic mission in the country.
Welcoming the guests, Mr. Valkanov wished prosperity to the Bulgarian community in Georgia and to the host country, which recently celebrated its national holiday. He called on those present to reflect on the significance of one of Bulgaria’s brightest holidays — the Day of Bulgarian Education, Culture, and the Slavonic Alphabet.
In his farewell address, Ambassador Veselin Valkanov noted that, in order to fully appreciate this important historical achievement of the Bulgarian spirit today, it must be supported by modern successes and achievements. According to him, without a strong and prosperous Bulgaria, this holiday would lose part of its significance and international prestige.
The guests expressed their gratitude to the Embassy of Bulgaria and personally to Ambassador Veselin Valkanov for his support and attention to the Bulgarian community, for the development of Bulgarian–Georgian relations, and for his contribution to maintaining the teaching of the Bulgarian language at Sukhumi State University in Tbilisi.
